The Canadian nursing homes and long-term care facilities industry consists of about 10,000 employer establishments (single-location companies and units of multi-location companies) with combined annual revenue of about $28 billion, or about 11% of the country’s spending on health care. Large companies include Extendicare, Revera, and Sienna Senior Living. The industry is segmented into homes for the aged; residential mental health and substance abuse facilities; and other residential care facilities for transients, delinquents, and the physically disabled.
